Congratulations to Harrison Hughes
We would like to let our school community know that Mr Harrison Hughes has been appointed as Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) at Winnaleah District School starting in Term 2. This is a great professional opportunity for Harrison, and we wish him every success as he takes on his new role.
We will be working to appoint a replacement for Harrison and will update families once arrangements for Term 2 are confirmed.
Thank you for your ongoing support as our staffing continues to change.
Isaiah Wise Commencing his Prac Placement
Commencing from next week Mr Wise will be completing his final teaching placement as part of his training. We are fortunate his placement is at Lilydale District School commencing on 19th May for six weeks. During this time, Mrs Breadmore will be taking over the teaching of his class Monday to Wednesday.
Mrs Breadmore is an experienced teacher, and I am confident the students will continue to learn and thrive under her care.
I would like to acknowledge Mr Wise’s outstanding work on the Year 3-4A and thank him for his ongoing commitment to Lilydale District School.
Farewell David Farrelly
David Farrelly will be finishing up his time with us at Lilydale District School with his last day being Friday 16th May.
David has been a valued part of our school community. We are very grateful for his hard work, dedication, and the care he has shown in keeping our school clean and welcoming each day.
We will certainly miss his friendly smile and presence around our school.
Farewell to Antonio Zanchetta
Last Friday we farewelled Mr Antonio Zanchetta who has left Lilydale District School and will no longer be teaching Year 7 and 8 HASS and Year 9 English.
We thank Mr Zanchetta for his contribution to our school and the outstanding care he has shown his students during his time with us. While we are sad to see him go, we wish him all the best in his next chapter.
Beginning this week, Mr George will be teaching Year 7 HASS, Miss Howard will be teaching Year 8 HASS and Mrs Denehy will be teaching Year 9 English.
Mother’s Day Thankyou
We were thrilled to welcome around 135 mums, grandmothers, nans and special guests to our Mother’s Day Activity Day last Thursday. The school was buzzing with laughter, creativity and fun as families joined in a variety of activities together.
From craft stations and games to shared stories and hand massages, it was wonderful to see everyone connecting and celebrating the special women in our students’ lives. Events like this really demonstrate the strength of our school community.
A big thank you to our student leaders and staff, particularly Mrs Page who helped make the day run smoothly – and everyone who came along and made the day successful.
At Lilydale, we are our best, when we are Safe, Respectful and Learning and Mother’s Day was a prefect example of this in action.
Warm Regards,
Karen Hay
Principal

Our Kinder and Prep students had lots of fun celebrating Easter together. We enjoyed some Easter cooking, art and craft, fun games, and of course an Easter egg hunt! With smiles and laughter we made (and ate!) Easter biscuits, decorated bunny ears and baskets, created an egg collage, painted egg ornaments, used hammers to create pictures using flowers, and had a bunny relay before hunting for hidden eggs in the playground. What an exciting day full of happy memories for our youngest learners.

Kinder Mother's Day Afternoon Tea
On Wednesday, 7 May we held a Mother’s Day afternoon tea in Kinder. After showing their mums and nans around the classroom, Kinder children were excited to share some yummy afternoon tea with their special people while watching a photo slideshow of our learning in Kinder this year so far. After eating, we spent time playing together with a variety of activities both inside and outside, including on our wonderful new playground! Thank you to everyone who was able to join us, especially those mums with newly born babies! It was a really lovely afternoon.

Year 5–6C Explore Soil Science in the Library
Last week, our Year 5–6C Food and Fibre class transformed the library into a hub of creativity and learning as they worked on their soil posters. Students researched soil types, composition, and sustainability, using both books and digital resources to deepen their understanding of soil’s vital role in food and fibre production. Their colourful, informative posters are a fantastic reflection of their teamwork and curiosity—well done, 5–6C!

Our primary students from Kinder – Year 6 had a ball with AFL Auskick sessions in week 1 of term 2, thanks to AFLTas! From learning to handball or to perfecting their kicks, these future footy stars are truly "goal-ing" places.
