Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Class Meet and Greets and Sausage Sizzle

Sausage_Sizzle.png

Thank you to those parents who attended our Meet and Greet and sausage sizzle afternoon on Tuesday, 25 February. The afternoon was designed to provide you with an opportunity to ask questions information about routines, procedures and general information about your child.  When we all work together – those at home and those at school – we give our students the very best chance of success.  I sincerely thank our hard-working teachers for the time and preparation theyso obviously put into the organisation of the afternoon.

I encourage you to take every opportunity to work alongside our classroom teachers to assist and support your child’s learning.

Athletics Carnival

This year we have a change in the organisation of our Athletics Carnival. It is taking place over two days – Tuesday, 25 and Wednesday, 26 March from 9.30am to 2.30pm each day for our Year 3 to 10 students.  Students will move around each event as a year group which will keep them very busy!

Our Kinder to Year 2 will have a fun filled morning of novelty races and tabloid events on Wednesday, 26 March.  This carnival is designed to help enhance their skills in preparation for the coming years of more competitive athletic events. It is important to note that this carnival will commence at 11.45am – 1.00pm.

All students are expected to remain in their year level (Year 3, Year 4 etc.) throughout the duration of the carnival.  I would ask that you do not ask your child to leave their designated area to accompany you around the ground as this may cause significant supervision issue.  Safety is of the utmost importance, and we must ensure that we know where students are at all time.  Teachers have been given this information and will be required to follow these instructions.

Students will be required to wear appropriate running shoes, shorts and house coloured T-Shirt. They also need to bring warm clothes to wear in case of inclement weather, and plenty to eat and drink.  Only students ordering their lunch for the Qkr App will be allowed to access the canteen.

I would like to thank our Physical Education Team and Mrs Page for their organisation of the carnival.  Much work goes into the planning to ensure our students have a great day.

The athletics carnival is always an action packed, and fun filled day for all involved. Come along and show your support for our students.

Mobile Phones at Lilydale District School

Mobile_phone.jpg
At Lilydale District School, we are committed to providing an environment where students can focus on their learning, engage fully in school activities, and build meaningful relationships with their peers. One of the key elements to supporting this is our school policy: Phones Off and Away All Day.

Our Policy

We understand that phones are an important part of daily life, but we also recognize that they can be a distraction when students should be focusing on their learning and interacting with others. Our policy encourages students to:

  • By keeping phones off and away during the school day, students are more engaged in class activities, group work, and personal interactions.
  • Reducing phone distractions helps students to concentrate better, which ultimately supports their academic success.
  • This policy supports a sense of responsibility and respect for school rules, creating a safe and positive environment for everyone.

How this works

  • Phones should be turned off and stored in bags, lockers, or designated areas upon arrival at school and remain off until the end of the school day.  They should not be in pockets
  • If there is an urgent need for a student to be contacted during the day, you are welcome to contact the office.

Supporting Our Policy

We ask parents and carers to help reinforce this message by encouraging your children to follow the Phones Off and Away All Day policy at home and discuss why it's important. Your support will ensure we can maintain a focused, respectful, and positive learning environment for all students.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to create the best possible experience for our students.

Warm Regards,

Karen Hay
Principal
