Maths
When you walk into a classroom at Lilydale during a Maths lesson, you will see a range of activities taking place. Students use objects such as blocks, number lines and charts to develop their understandings of concepts. As their knowledge and understanding develops through repeated practice, they begin to use more abstract representations such as digits and symbols. For example, a student would learn multiplication by repeatedly adding the same number of objects, then making ‘groups of’ with blocks or counters before moving onto the written form such as 3 groups of 4 or 3 x 4.
