Family Satisfaction Survey

We encourage all parent and carers to take part and tell us how we are going. The more responses we receive, the clearer the picture we gain of our school community. Currently we have twenty-eight parents who have completed the survey, but we would like more. The survey is conducted on a secure website, and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
Thank you for supporting our school by sharing your thoughts.
Sports Colours Day
Next Thursday, 25 September we invite all students to wear their team/sport colours and help Aussie Kids Kick Cancer. Bring along a gold coin to donate to the cause and order a hot dog on the QKR App by 2.00pm on Wednesday, 23 September.
We look forward to seeing our students wearing their team colours.
Work Samples – Kinder to Year 6
Our Kindergarten students will receive evidences of learning that relate directly to the outcomes from the Early Years Learning Framework.
I sincerely thank our teaching staff for their commitment to supporting the learning of our students.
End Of Year Assemblies
We have commenced some initial planning for our end of the year assemblies for 2025. Due to the feedback we received from last year, we have made some minor changes that will help ensure our assemblies run more smoothly. This year our assemblies will be divided into a Junior Awards Assembly (Kinder to Year 6) and a Senior Awards Assembly (Year 7 to 12). This will ensure we are not asking students to sit for up to two and a half hours in what can be a potentially warm environment.
Junior Awards Assembly – Tuesday, 16 December from 9.15am to 10.30am
Senior Awards Assembly – Tuesday, 16 December from 10.45am to 12.00pm
Siblings are welcome to attend each other’s assemblies; however, they must be seated with their parents once their own assembly has concluded.
More information will be provided in Term 4.
Lilydale District Swimming Carnival
Our Year 3-6 and 7-10 Swimming Carnivals will be held at the Scottsdale Pool on Friday, 24 October. Our Swimming Carnivals are designed to involve all students and are not as you might expect! It is planned that our students will always be on the move with minimal sitting. There will be novelty races which include seahorse races, cork scramble and a cannon bomb competition, access to the water park and some more formal racing.
I would encourage you to have a conversation with your child about their attendance on this day. More information to come in our next newsletter.
Warm regards,
Karen Hay
Principal
Being SunSmart in Tasmania means using sun protection when UV levels reach 3 and above, this occurs from September to April. From May to August, sun protection is not recommended unless near highly reflective surfaces such as snow or being outdoors for extended periods.
Therefore, this means implementing sun protection measures from the beginning of the school year until the end of April and again from the beginning of September until the end of the school year. Implementing sun protection measures throughout Terms 1 and 4 only is insufficient to protect against UV risks.
Students in Kinder to Year 6 will be required to wear SunSafe hats from 1st September through until the end of April 2026.

As Term 3 comes to an end, our Year 8 students have been working on some exciting and meaningful learning across their subjects. Here is a snapshot of what they have been up to in Maths and HaSS.
Mathematics – Statistics
In Maths we have started our final unit of the term; statistics. Students have looked at the difference between collecting data through population and sampling and have even started exploring this themselves. The remainder of the term we will be focusing on how to analyse the data that students have collected.
HaSS – Business and Economics
In HaSS, the focus has been on how individuals and businesses budget. This has involved learning how individuals manage money, make financial decisions, and plan for future expenses.
Year 1 have been learning all about how we can use maps to recognise familiar features around our landscape and create directions to get from one feature to another. Together as a class, we made structures to represent our buildings around the school. Then we labelled them and added in the play areas. After that, each student used their own map to draw a start and end point, and then wrote directions on writing paper. Finally, the students went out in pairs around the school to direct their partner from one location to another using directional language like past, behind, through, under, and around. The year 1s did an amazing job of following and giving directions, and of recognising the features of our school.

The Year 2 students have been experimenting with etching in their Primary Science class recently. The etchings are inspired by their Science unit, Space, Earth and Sun. Students began by colouring strips of paper with pastels before covering them with black paint. Using the ends of their paintbrushes, they then carefully scratched into the paint to reveal bright, colourful designs of outer space. The results are creative and unique representations of their learning.

Last week, our students invited the special men in their lives to join us for a fantastic day of activities in celebration of Father’s Day. From fishing and pot decorating to keychain making, sports, reading, colouring, puzzles, and more—it was a day full of laughter, connection, and creativity!
A huge thank you to Bunnings North Launceston for donating terracotta pots for our decorating station, and to the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania for lending us fishing gear.
It was wonderful to see our school filled with dads, grandads, uncles, and other important caregivers.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so memorable!

Last Friday, students from Maralinga and Corinna Houses came together for an exciting afternoon of competition and camaraderie. Events included Netball, Football, Cooking, Soccer, and Art, with students showing off their skills and teamwork across the board.
The focus was on building house spirit through participation, resilience, and collaboration. Teachers also nominated students for the House Spirit Award, recognising those who best demonstrated our school values: Safe, Respectful, and Learning.
The winning house and award recipient will be announced at Friday’s assembly. Well done to everyone who took part—you’ve made your house proud!
