We have enjoyed a busy couple of weeks in our Launching into Learning spaces, with added services coming out to Lilydale to offer their information and support of availabilities for families.
Nicole Kingston from ‘Beyond the Seed’, has also made herself available to our families and due to the great feedback from families will be inviting her out again.
For those interested in more of what Nicole can offer you and your family, follow the link here:
You will be able to sign up for some Free valuable information sessions that can help you and your family into the future.
A reminder that Launching into Learning (LIL) sessions are currently running every Friday during school Terms. You are welcome to start anytime during the school year.
This year we also welcome Sandy Park to the Team. She comes to us from ECIS (Early Learning Intervention Services) and attends our LiL sessions on a fortnightly basis. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s development, please come and speak to either Sandy, Janina or Christine.
In the LIL space you will see:
Sandy Park, Christine Street and Janina Gilmartin
7-10 completed artworks based on Entwined Symbols that have special meaning and portraits. 5-6A Colour and Texture explorations.
The school term is over half way through and the number of activities, events and carnivals doesn’t seem to slow down at all. There are lots of great things happening in our school and for our students. Last week we had fabulous representation by our selected students at both the Inter High Cross Country on Tuesday and the Inter Primary Cross Country on Wednesday. Our students did an incredible job with their running and also their behaviour and sportsmanship. We had individual and team successes with Rafferty winning all divisions for the Year 9 boys in the High School section.
We have had our second NE Cup event and we were very pleased with the participation and again the sportsmanship displayed by our athletes. These days are a planned activity and the expectation is that all our students will attend. It was disappointing to see that a few of our students stayed at home or elected not to travel with the 7-10 cohort. These days are great for building teamwork and collaborative skills which can transfer back into the classroom and life in general. I would strongly encourage all our students to participate in these days, in whatever format is appropriate.
We have been busily trying to ensure that our students get a variety of interactions and learning and we have been fortunate to have our local fire brigade bring the fire truck in for a visit for all our Prep to Year 2 students so that they can experience what is required to help in an emergency. Our Police Officer Kristen has also been involved with these classes in a range of activities, not only sharing her knowledge of her job but also helping with reading sessions and assisting in classrooms.
On Monday we had a Bravehearts session for all our students Prep to Year 2 which promotes and teaches students about personal safety and what they can do if they feel unsafe. The key purpose of this visit is about Educating, Empowering and Protecting our kids.
We have lots of great facilities in the school and we have been strategic in keeping classes to a minimum to maximise learning for students, but this comes at a cost. We are working with our students to be respectful towards each other and generally are having improved outcomes with this. What we are struggling with currently is needless vandalism and destruction of items in the physical environment which then needs replacing or repairing. Some of this is occurring out of school hours. Please encourage people to report any behaviours that aren’t OK, especially if they aren’t courageous or confident enough to speak up at the time. We all need to help look after our school.
Our Year 5-6B students are doing just that. They have undertaken an ambitious campaign to reduce the amount of rubbish in our school. The representatives of the class came and spoke with senior staff about their concerns regarding the rubbish in the school. They had done great research into rubbish reduction and also had some of their own data about our impact at Lilydale. They outlined the evidence they had literally collected, broken down the areas of the school which had the greatest amounts of litter and have put together advertising posters around the school to try to stimulate discussion and make people aware of the issue. Well done and we hope to see some rubbish reduction as a direct result of their efforts and the engagement from our student community.
All our Years 3, 4 and 5 and some of our Year 6 students have started their Swimming and Water Safety Program. This is a big undertaking by the school but it is incredibly important that all our students understand and know what to do around water to keep themselves and others safe. A big thank you to staff for their flexibility and willingness to support this critical program and their adaptability to significant changes and responsibilities in their days.
Thank you to all those parents and carers who are not only keeping their children home when they have flu like symptoms but also ringing and letting us know. This communication around student absence is critical for us to be able to keep track but also to ensure we are looking after everyone’s health and well being. Currently we have a number of staff away with illness and it would be great if you can talk to and reinforce with your child respectful communication and interactions with visiting staff. These people are working to the best of their ability, often in a new setting, trying to support and assist your child/ren to continue offering learning opportunities. Obviously, these people don’t always have the relationships that their regular teachers have so we need students to be respectful and courageous in speaking up and letting staff know what will help them participate in their learning.

Cross Country Carnivals Year 3-10
On Friday, 21 May we held our annual Cross-Country event, back at the school this year. It was great to see so many parents attend, especially to the primary event. So many children tried hard it was a really positive day. Thanks to teachers and students who assisted throughout the day.
In the primary carnival the following students had wins with a tremendous effort.
Year | Girls | Boys |
3 | Bede | Cooper |
4 | Maddison | Callum |

6 | Ashlen | Hayden |
With the house competition Corinna defeated Maralinga with a solid victory, leading all day.
The following High School Students also were the champions in their respective events
Year | Girls | Boys |
7 | Amalia | Josh |
8 | Thylacine | Joe |
9 | Gracelyn | Rafferty |
10 | Keyara | Arthur |
With the house competition Maralinga defeated Corinna with a comfortable victory.
Inter-High Cross Country
We took a small but keen group of students to the Inter-High at Kings Meadows this year. All students should be proud of their efforts, with everyone have a go and representing the school proudly.
We had 2 students who were top 3 in their division 2 events. Keyara had a great run, giving it all and ending up 3rd for division 2. The star of the day was Rafferty who won his event by about 50m. Not just division 2 but the whole race. Rafferty was out early to a good lead and never looked in trouble. His determination was a great example for others. Numerous other students were top 10 for division 2.
Thanks - Clint Bolton HPE Teacher
Prep-Year 2 Police Officer Visit
Prep to Year 2 classes enjoyed the visit from our very own Police Officer, Constable Males. We listened to what the police do to keep us all safe and uphold the law. We discussed how to phone 000 (Triple Zero) and in what circumstances. We also talked about when you would use the police number 131 444 for non-emergencies.
Students enjoyed looking at the police car and hearing the siren. Thank you Constable Males.
On Thursday 3rd June, K-2 students were visited by Lilydale Fire Service volunteers (Kerry, Dave, Jayden and Lucas) and their Fire Truck. To compliment the work that Ms Stanfield has been doing with P-2 classes during Health lessons, the fire fighters talked to the students about what they do, and what safety gear they wear when fighting fires.
They also showed students the equipment that they carry on the fire truck, and how long their hoses are. The highlights were hearing the sirens, and getting the opportunity to sit inside the fire truck. It was a wonderful visit and the students were very excited! Thank you to Kerry, Dave, Jayden and Lucas from Lilydale Fire Service for attending, and to Ms Stanfield for organising the visit.
An outstanding day had by all students participating in TPSSA Cross Country today. Students’ efforts were truly aspirational with a number of top ten finishers, and every student representing Lilydale School with pride (and a bit of the good old grit to make the distance!).
In particular, we would like to congratulate the following top three finishers in their respective year levels: Grade 3 Boys 1st - Cooper, Grade 3 Boys 3rd - Kaiden, Grade 3 Girls 1st - Bede, Grade 5 Girls 3rd - Tully Grade 6 Girls 1st - Ashlen.
Congratulations to all students who participated.
WANTED: Junior Sports Equipment
Our 5-6 students are starting training for Hockey, Football, Soccer and Netball soon in readiness for our yearly TPSSA sports gala days.
We would love to receive donations of football boots, shin pads and long dark blue/black football socks (in good condition).
If you have been holding onto any of these items and unsure what to do with them because they are too good to "throw away", please send them our way. Our students and staff would be very appreciative.
Thank you kindly.
Year 11-13 Students Visit Lockleigh Park
Year 11-13 students visited Lockleigh Park to discuss assessing suitability of horses. Possibly Shakya diversified with some feline suitability.
