A big thank you to those families who took the time to provide feedback to us via the School Satisfaction survey. We always welcome input from families, especially via this system wide survey, as it provides data over time. This helps to inform us about our direction and progress against a range of measures.
We strongly encourage families to keep feeding information to us via all the mechanisms available. Updates to class teachers, senior staff or through the School Association, are all ways we can help make Lilydale District School a better place into the future. A big thank you to those who have a solution focussed approach and come with suggestions.
We have observed numerous situations where students have shown respectful behaviours in circumstances where we haven’t been able to source staff during absences. Splitting classes, collapsing subjects, and changing the timing of the lessons have all been strategies we have had to employ during the term but generally students have coped with these scenarios and been able to participate in learning. Well done to all those students who have shown resilience, flexibility, and maturity – your efforts are appreciated, as are those of parents who continuously support their children to give things a go.
We have fourteen (14) of our students representing Tamar Valley in the Country Gold Sports exchange on Thursday. We have 3-4 students, playing at venues across Launceston, in each of the sports: hockey, football, netball and soccer. Well done to Tabitha, Yuma, Charli, Madison, Seth, Bede, Madeline, Zahra, Charlie, Layla, Casey, Cooper, Louie and Shaune on your selection and best of luck for your games against regional teams with students from the North East all the way through to Circular Head participating.
All 11 participants in the White Card course successfully completed their training last Tuesday and Wednesday. For some of our students, they now realise the importance of their reading skills in being able to function at work, with some students struggling to do all the tasks independently the first time around. Given the competitive market they are entering it is a reminder to everyone that reading is a core skill that you need to master to be successful in life.
The fifth and final session of our Future Seekers program for Gr 5 students was held on Monday. Throughout these sessions, facilitated by The Smith Family, students have been encouraged to look at their skills and how they might transfer to a workplace. The 6 C’s are touched on throughout the 5 sessions and are a useful reference for students.
Lilydale District School continues to partner with Lilydale District Progress Association. We are looking at events that can be run for the community, gathering input from students about their vision and ideas. We are keen to contribute to the growth of the town’s image more broadly and encourage anyone who can contribute to put your hand up and make a difference.
Hats will be a compulsory part of break time in the primary school in term 4 and strongly recommended in the 7-12 space. Broad brimmed hats provide the greatest protection for everyone, and students will need hats that comply to be able to go out into the playground. Nearly 18 000 people were diagnosed with melanoma in 2022 with 2500 associated fatalities. We will have sunscreen available in all classes for students to access prior to each break period. Please use the upcoming break to source a hat for your child. Hats with inappropriate messaging will not be allowed to be worn.
We trust that you all enjoy the holidays and that you make some great memories with your families. We look forward to working with you all again next term, safe, refreshed and ready to learn.
