1-2A have been diving deeper into their reading and comprehension and each week are writing about a story heard that week. Students then either write a description of the character, a summary including a beginning, middle and end or a setting description. These activities build on students’ vocabulary of known words and of course have a lot of fun doing some illustrations!

5-6 have done some work on symmetry. A shape has Rotational Symmetry when it still looks the same after some rotation (of less than one full turn).
These shapes have rotational symmetry of 2.

Book Week is always an exciting time in Kinder, and this year was no exception. 18 dressed-up Kinders (and a couple of alpacas with maracas) made their way over to the PAC for the Book Week Parade. We enjoyed seeing the other students in their costumes and gave them lots of hi-5s. When it was our turn, we made the most of our time in the spotlight parading our costumes around the PAC and enjoying the attention! In the afternoon we welcomed parents, grandparents, and younger siblings into our classroom for our Open Afternoon. We read the story of Where the Lyrebird Lives and worked together on some activities related to the story – making animal habitats and binoculars, as well as using water colour paints to draw a lyrebird. We also designed some bookmarks for the Book Week competition that is being run at the library. We finished off our day with a play outside. What an amazing day we had!

We all understand how important reading is for everyone in our lives, which is why it was so exciting to share last week with our Book Week celebrations. Having a huge range of characters represented shows how diverse literature can be and why there is something for everyone. A huge thank you to those families who supported their child/ren with their costumes but moreover, to those who are reading with their children regularly. Please remember that there are thousands of audio books subscriptions available through the library.
It was also fantastic to share learning in the afternoon in our primary classroom. Having parents and grandparents in the school modelling themselves as learners helps with our messaging to students that the community believes in and is involved with the children.
Another opportunity for families to be involved will be tomorrow when Kinder host their Father’s Day breakfast. It is a great way for male family members to model for their children and also to celebrate the support that they provide.
We are looking to start planning for 2024 and would appreciate any families who haven’t already notified us of any planned changes to contact the office staff or your child’s teacher. Similarly we strongly encourage any of our pre kinder students who haven’t enrolled formally to complete this so that we can ensure that you have access to all the information you need.
We have continued with a number of excursions for a range of grades with 5-6 Sport happening last week and our 9-10 Catering class visiting Launceston to participate in a Barista Course and also a Servery Course. These skills will certainly be advantageous if students are looking for part time work over Christmas.
Our Year 11-12 students are working hard to finalise assessments leading into Term 4 and staff are moderating work samples across English, Mathematics and Agricultural Systems this Friday. The group has been a very friendly cohort but still work focussed. They are all motivated to complete their units and push forward with their education, returning for Year 12, enrolling at UTas College or moving into the workforce.
Attendance is still a major area of focus for our school. We sit on 81% currently which is around the state average. Remember that every school day counts. Please ring or contact the office if your child is away. For longer absences (4+ days) please provide a medical certificate.
