I Looked in The Mirror and I Didn’t See Me
One morning I got out of bed to get ready for school. I went to have a shower, and when I got out of the shower, got dressed. I looked into the mirror and I didn’t see me!
When I went to touch the mirror suddenly, I got sucked into the mirror. I looked around to see where I was, then I heard a really loud roar!! I rushed over to see what it was.
Then I saw a T rex! I rushed back to the portal, but I was to late the portal had already closed I didn’t know what to do.
Later that evening it started thundering and lightning, suddenly I got struck by lightning, I got knocked out. When I woke up, I was in a dark cave. I got up and looked at my hand, then I saw blue lightning going up my arm. I went for a walk down the cave then I heard raptors calling. It was too dark to see but then I saw a raptor shaped body, so I started running!! The worst thing was they were catching up to me! so I ran so fast I was like the flash. I stopped running and I lost the raptors, they were gone now, I had the powers like the flash. I had to learn to use them properly. It took lots of days for me to use my powers properly. I learnt to make lightning bolts and run-on walls. There’s one thing I’ve been practicing to make a portal I need to run super-fast to make a portal to go home. I started running as far as I could then a yellow portal appeared, and I ran strait through the portal and I was home. Something was very strange it was still morning. Then I realised since I got sucked into the mirror nothing had changed but I still had my superpowers.
the end.

Smith Family Work Inspirations
Lilydale has been really lucky to been asked to participate in the Smith Family Work Inspirations program. On Day 1 the students were able to see the work done at ACL Bearings and hear about the company’s rich history and the premium product that they make. Their bearings can be found in some of the fastest cars in the world. We then visited UTas Stadium where able to sit in the corporate box, ring the siren and walk on their multimillion dollar turf. Thank you to both of these companies for taking the time to talk to our students and to the Smith Family for organising it.

3-4 Respectful Relationships Event
Towards the end of Term 2, as part of the respectful relationship’s unit during health for term 2, the 3-4 classes hosted an event and invited the 1-2 classes to start building positive relationships with their younger peers. The students were highly engaged throughout the entire event and there were many student interacting with others from different classes.

Welcome back to Term 3. During the break the construction team from Rosiers has been busily making a start on our redevelopment of the senior toilet facilities and the Year 9-10 classroom and corridor. This exciting project will ultimately provide us with modern facilities and contemporary learning spaces. Whilst we understand people will be keen to see what is happening on site, please remember this is a construction zone and out of bounds to all except employees and contractors. We will keep you updated throughout the journey.
This work has meant some significant changes for our senior students, who are managing very well overall with new locations, changed timetables and temporarily managing with less space in the playground. Having to self manage, be planned and organised in advance are life skills that will be honed during this term and next.

We have had a busy start to the term with our Professional Learning Day for staff, focussing on Restorative Practices training. We know that relationships are fundamental to our success with students and their learning and having all our staff on the same page is critical. We have already seen this in action with the use of circles to start lessons and playground issues being resolved using techniques learnt during the day.
For the remainder of the year, we are refocussing on our vision:
We are our best when we are safe, respectful and learning.
We are going to be working closely with students to unpack what this means for them, their class and their sector. This is applicable in both the classroom and in the playground. Having consistent expectations and messages are important to ensure students understand the boundaries and to reinforce the consistent ways we wish them to behave.
We have had a good number of students who have completed the 100 days of reading already this year. Please encourage your child to persevere if they haven’t got to their goal and similarly to keep reading if they have. Well done to all our Kinders who achieve 60 days of reading – its less because they are only at school 3 days a week. Also the Premier’s Reading Challenge is on currently. If you are short on books at home please use the library to support your child’s reading needs and interests.
We had the Dental Van arrive yesterday. They will be here from the 1-10 August offering fissure sealing and fluoride polishing programs. Families will have received information in relation to this service, but if you haven’t returned your paperwork please contact the office.
As always if there are any concerns or information that we need in relation to best supporting your child please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance. We look forward to a great term of learning.

RAT Tests Reminder
We have a number of RAT tests available for our families to use at home. If you do require some to be sent home, please let us know and we will arrange for your child to bring home a supply.
You can either email the office at: lilydale.district.school@decyp.tas.gov.au or phone us on 6395 0100. You can also call into the office after 3pm and collect a supply, or send a note with your child to the class teacher and they will let us know.
Thanks so much.
Please be aware of the road rules around school zones and around buses when their yellow warning lights are flashing.
When driving on our roads and you come across a bus which has stopped and turned on their yellow, flashing warning lights, it is the law that you must slow down to 40kms.
School zones and bus stops are busy places at drop-off and pick-up times and young children are unpredictable and struggle to calculate distances which makes them vulnerable. We all have a responsibility to keep them safe.
Please speak to your children regarding safe behaviour in and around buses, and remind them of the necessity to waiting for the bus to leave the stop BEFORE crossing the road.
In the past five years 30 children aged between four and 15 were injured being hit by vehicles in school zones, and 15 of those were during school hours. There’s been several tragedies around school buses in recent years. We can prevent more children being killed or seriously injured by making sure we drive at or below 40 in school zones and when you see buses flashing their yellow warning lights.

Are you making every school day count?
It’s Term 3 already – welcome back for another term!
As we move through the school year, sometimes regular school attendance can be challenging.
It’s important your child keeps up good attendance habits though.
Going to school every day means your child has every chance to learn, and be around their friends and teachers. Every day adds up, to benefit your child now and in the future.
If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’ll listen to your situation, and help in any way we can.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the "Anything Can Happen" website
